Treaty Oak’s management team has a collective 50+ years’ experience across the critical competencies, including power markets, offtake structuring, design, engineering and real estate.
The Role
Treaty Oak is seeking a Manager, Power Market Fundamentals. The role will focus on the development of robust fundamental power market analysis by maintaining and utilizing Treaty Oak’s production cost model. The Manager of Power Market Fundamentals will play a key role in supporting enhancing and creating development strategies, leveraging expertise in market intelligence, model development, and forecasting. The position reports to the Senior Director of Fundamental Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, and enhance energy, capacity, ancillary, and REC price forecasts using the company’s production cost model to support Treaty Oak’s development, M&A, and market development/expansion goals and initiatives.
- Analyze and monitor market price drivers, including fuel costs, supply-demand dynamics, regulatory and technological developments.
- Development of datasets and processes to automate production cost model inputs and assist in continuous improvement of internal fundamental forecasting tools.
- Apply modelling insights to assess risk and refine strategies based on evolving market conditions
- Work closely with other members of the Markets team to support commercial and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with Treaty Oak’s Transmission/Interconnection team to align market and transmission analytics.
- Integrate market forecast and outlook with proprietary market intelligence and GIS platforms.
- Research, develop, and produce presentations, analyses, and other work product to provide key insights and information to Treaty Oak’s Board, shareholder, and other senior stakeholders.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, including engineering, computer science, finance, or economics; advanced degree preferred
- At least 4 years of experience in roles focused on deregulated power markets, production cost modelling, and fundamental analysis
- Proven experience with production cost modelling software (e.g. PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD, ENCOMPASS, DAYZER, UPLAN).
- Extremely strong familiarity with and skills in MS Office suite (specifically Excel and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex model outputs into actionable insights for a range of stakeholders.
- Direct experience and understanding of certain markets (i.e., ERCOT, MISO, PJM, CAISO, WECC) preferred.
- Knowledge of energy policy, market structure, and key regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with programming languages data analytics (e.g., Python, R) and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
