The Role
Treaty Oak is seeking a Manager, Transmission. The role will be fully involved in the developing economic models, performing 8760 studies, congestion/curtailment analysis and performing powerflow studies for Treaty Oak’s development and operational assets. The function will also closely support other key business activities, including but not limited to greenfield development, M&A, raising debt and tax equity financing, and developing corporate strategy. These efforts are critical for Treaty Oak’s development and commercial strategies and will work closely with the Finance, Development, and Commercial teams to implement them. The position reports to the Vice President, Transmission and Interconnection.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform year long economic studies in deregulated markets using Plexos
- Develop and maintain databases to track changes/updates to the transmission network in markets like MISO, ERCOT
- Gather feedback from Stakeholder meetings like RPG (ERCOT), IPWG (MISO), JTIQ (SPP/MISO) to make informed decisions regarding future buildouts
- Co-ordinate consultant run studies – provide feedback to study scope, verify assumptions, develop sensitivities and review results
- Perform benchmarking studies using consultant run studies as reference and over time replicate results used for Reliance Letter for Lenders/Banks
- Develop view on assumptions for economic studies – interface limits, outages, contingency definitions
- Independently work closely with other stakeholders and teams to proactively identify business needs and develop strategies to address them.
- Play a key role in integrating insights and data generated by Treaty Oak’s in-house production cost model with originations and product design efforts as well as providing critical market feedback on forecast assumptions and accuracy.
- Assist Regulatory Affairs with analysis and other work product on policy/regulatory changes to defend and expand the value of Treaty Oak’s assets.
- Research, develop, and produce presentations, analyses, and other work product to provide key insights and information to Treaty Oak’s Board, shareholder, and other senior stakeholders within and without the business.
Education and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical engineering) required.
- At least 4 years of experience in roles with focuses on power systems, transmission engineering and planning, interconnection analysis, and power flow modelling.
- Strong familiarity with and skills in PowerWorld or similar softwares like PSSe, TARA
- High levels of competence in MS Office suite also a requirement.
- Prior knowledge of production cost modelling principles and programs, particularly Plexos, or similar like UPLAN, PROMOD
- Familiarity with federal, state, and regional laws and regulations governing renewable energy generation, transmission, and siting a plus.
- Direct experience in organized markets (i.e., ERCOT, MISO, PJM) preferred.
- Familiarity with regulated markets (like PSCo, Southern Company, PacifiCorp) preferred
- Experience in performing long term transmission studies and modelling of transmission improvements
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills a must.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
