The Role
The Survey Manager will be responsible for overseeing certain survey-related activities related to survey vendor management, reviewing and establishing design constraints, and managing survey deliverables in connection with project related transactions.
This role ensures accurate land and site data collection, manages survey contracts, and collaborates with internal teams and external surveyors to support land acquisition, permitting, development, and financing efforts. The Survey Manager will work closely with the legal, real estate, engineering and development teams to ensure compliance with various survey requirements. This position offers remote work flexibility, with the expectation to travel to our Austin office or project sites 1–2 times per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee land surveying activities for Treaty Oak Clean Energy Renewables Projects (e.g. Solar, Wind, BESS)
- Review and interpret ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, and topographic maps for land acquisition and permitting.
- Coordinate with internal teams, survey vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure survey accuracy and compliance.
- Negotiate and manage survey contracts, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.
- Provide technical guidance on survey requirements for project development and legal documentation.
- Ensure all survey data aligns with contractual obligations and lender requirements.
- Support due diligence and title review processes by validating land boundaries and site constraints.
- Maintain survey records, documentation and GIS data for internal reference and compliance process.
- Assist in the creation of maps, figures and exhibits for use in project proposals, environmental studies, and engineering documentation.
- Assist GIS team in displaying survey and design data within internal company GIS Portal.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Surveying, Geomatics, GIS, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field)
- 2-5 years of experience in a survey technician or GIS analyst role, preferably supporting renewable energy, utilities, or land development.
- Strong knowledge of GIS software (ESRI Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro) and data management best practices.
- Proficiency in interpreting survey data, legal land descriptions, and spatial relationships.
- Familiarity with coordinate systems, projections, and land parcel data
- Strong experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D for drafting and data visualization.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience supporting renewable energy, utility-scale infrastructure projects and/or oil and gas preferred.
- Working knowledge of permitting and regulatory requirements for energy development.
- Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python, Model Builder) for automating GIS tasks.
- Knowledge of LiDAR, aerial imagery, or drone mapping workflows.
