Role and Responsibilities
Treaty Oak is seeking a Manager, Estimator. The position reports to the Manager, Contracts. The role will be responsible for -
1. Prepare Detailed Cost Estimates for Renewable Energy Projects
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for renewable energy initiatives, including Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Wind energy projects.
- Break down costs into categories such as equipment, labor, materials, permits, and overhead to provide clear financial projections.
- Incorporate risk factors and contingency plans into cost estimates to account for potential project uncertainties.
- Update estimates as project scopes evolve or new information becomes available.
2. Analyze Project Requirement Specifications
- Review technical specifications, engineering designs, and project plans to understand scope and resource needs.
- Identify key cost drivers by evaluating site conditions, system capacities, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure alignment between project requirements and cost projections, flagging discrepancies for resolution.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to clarify specifications and optimize cost-effective solutions.
3. Coordinate with Contractors During Development for Pricing Exercises
- Engage with contractors and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing for equipment, services, and materials.
- Facilitate competitive bidding processes by preparing detailed requests for proposals (RFPs) and evaluating submissions.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with contractors to secure cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality standards.
- Maintain ongoing communication with contractors to address pricing updates or changes during project development.
4. Collaborate with Project Managers to Ensure Accurate Budgeting
- Work closely with project managers to develop and refine project budgets that align with cost estimates and organizational goals.
- Provide regular updates on cost projections and budget status, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Support project managers in tracking expenditures throughout the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
5. Conduct Market Research and Cost Benchmarking
- Research market trends, material costs, and labor rates in the renewable energy sector to ensure estimates reflect current conditions.
- Benchmark costs against industry standards and similar projects to validate estimate accuracy and competitiveness.
- Stay informed about advancements in renewable energy technologies that may impact project costs or efficiency.
6. Support Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies
- Identify potential financial risks in projects, such as supply chain disruptions or fluctuating material costs.
- Work with project teams to develop mitigation strategies, ensuring cost estimates include appropriate buffers.
- Provide scenario analyses to evaluate the financial impact of different project outcomes.
7. Document and Maintain Cost Estimation Records
- Create detailed documentation of cost estimation processes, assumptions, and data sources for transparency and future reference.
- Maintain a database of historical project costs to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
- Ensure all cost-related documentation is organized and accessible for audits or stakeholder reviews.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (Required): A degree in a relevant field such as Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering), Construction Management, Renewable Energy, Finance, or Business Administration. A technical or financial background is essential for understanding project specifications and cost estimation.
- Advanced Degree (Preferred): A Master’s degree in Engineering Management, Renewable Energy Systems, or Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on project finance can be an advantage.
Qualifications and Skills
- Technical Knowledge:
- Understanding of renewable energy technologies, specifically Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Wind energy projects.
- Familiarity with engineering principles, project design, and construction processes related to renewable energy.
- Cost Estimation:
- Proven experience in cost estimation, budgeting, or financial analysis, preferably in the renewable energy or construction sector.
- Experience with renewable energy-specific software tools like PVSyst (for PV systems) or HOMER (for energy modeling).
- Background in risk management or scenario analysis for project cost forecasting.
- Industry Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in renewable energy project development, cost estimation, or a related role.
- Prior exposure to pricing exercises, contractor coordination, or project budgeting in the energy sector.
- Regulatory and Market Knowledge:
- Awareness of market trends, material costs, and labor rates in the renewable energy sector.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate project requirements and identify cost drivers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with contractors, project managers, and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining accurate cost records and documentation.
