The Role
Treaty Oak is seeking a Director of Tax. The role will be responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s corporate tax strategy, compliance, and planning and for supporting tax strategy and planning for the company’s portfolio of development, construction, and operations projects. The position reports to the VP, Accounting and FP&A.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies that optimize tax positions and support the company’s growth across utility-scale solar, battery storage, and other renewable energy projects.
- Advise leadership on tax implications of business decisions, financing arrangements, project acquisitions, and divestitures.
- Support tax due diligence and structuring for M&A, project finance, and partnership transactions.
- Provide tax input on project-level and corporate-level financial models.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, including with Project Finance, M&A, Legal, Asset Management, and Contracting.
Renewable Energy Incentives & Credits
- Monitor, evaluate, and manage tax incentives and credits relevant to clean energy, including staying informed of legislative and regulatory changes.
- Support efforts to monetize applicable tax credits and collaborate with finance and legal teams to structure tax equity and transfer deals.
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Manage quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including effective tax rate forecasting and deferred tax analysis.
Education and Qualifications
- 10-15 years of relevant, progressive experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required; active CPA strongly preferred.
- Significant experience in the energy sector, with a strong preference for candidates with renewable energy or infrastructure tax experience.
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws, including both direct and indirect tax, and those applicable to partnerships, corporations, consolidated groups, and renewable energy tax incentives.
- Experience advising on complex transactions, including M&A, tax equity, and structured finance.
- Experience managing relationships with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
